Face­book Pages are a great way to engage your com­mu­nity, in a way that doesn’t infringe on their pri­vacy and keep them up-to-date with your activ­ity in a spam free, non-invasive man­ner and best of all you have their per­mis­sion to engage in this way. In my opin­ion too many busi­ness are miss­ing the oppor­tu­ni­ties these pages present or sim­ply doing them because it is the done thing to say they are social and are not really opti­mis­ing the opportunity.

Social Media is still a new con­cept to many com­pa­nies and there are still many peo­ple not con­vinced that it can work for them. Then there are com­pa­nies that have embraced it and man­age­ment are enthu­si­as­tic and totally into Social Media. This arti­cle is aimed at peo­ple who have dis­cov­ered social media and believe that it can work for their com­pany, but their man­age­ment are either less than enthu­si­as­tic or per­haps almost in the dark about social media.

The first and prob­a­bly the most impor­tant thing to be able to con­vince man­age­ment that social media is for your busi­ness is

Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! A crier stood in the mid­dle of a town and shouted his announce­ment to the peo­ple of the town. In the mid­dle ages they demanded silence and every­one lis­tened. Social media is dif­fer­ent in that way. Today you are announc­ing your mes­sage to your friends, fol­low­ers or con­nec­tions against a lot of other noise. So how do you get heard?

As we know social media is a hot topic and caus­ing quite a buzz in the busi­ness world. Some peo­ple are all for it and oth­ers think it is a load of rub­bish. There are many dif­fer­ent ways peo­ple and busi­nesses are using social media. Some have made a huge profit from it and oth­ers noth­ing at all.

Some­times I look at web­sites and won­der “what were they think­ing?” The web­sites are often not designed in a way that is aligned with their pur­pose, tar­get audi­ence or with scal­a­bil­ity in mind
