Aqua Pebble

compassNow that you have your Unique Blueprint (UBP) – what do you do with it? I started out on this exercise with the aim of helping people who wanted to blog find out what to blog about, but as I thought about it I realised this could help other people as well. Usually people struggling with their uniqueness want to achieve something, but are not sure on how to differentiate against the competition they face.

The next step, in the process after discovering your uniqueness is understanding how to use what you have discovered about yourself and how you go about this depends on whether you have clear view of what you want to achieve or not. If you have no direction or goals, then the process you need to go through before you can continue with this process is more complex and not covered in this series.

In article I will explore the process for those who don’t have a clear view of what they want to achieve. I am going to use finding a job and finding out what to blog about as an example here. You may know that you want to find a new job, but may not know what you want to do or who you want to work for; you may love writing and want to blog or think blogging could help get you known or good for your business but not sure what to blog about.

Pull out your UBP. Look at what you are passionate about, your interests, your skills and knowledge. I am sure you have heard that being passionate about what you do is one of the keys to success, but passion alone is not enough. Ability and knowledge are some of the other factors too.

If you are looking for a job you need to research whether there are any careers in the line that you are passionate about? If not consider your interests. If you are still lost about what career to follow then a career guide is probably needed. They can test you to see what you are most suitable at. As for blogging, you can blog about anything so this is definitely a starting point. Do you have the knowledge and skills to do what you are passionate about?

If there is a gap look at what skills or knowledge you are lacking and find ways to fill the gaps. This can come from training, buying books and self-training; also the internet has a wealth of knowledge to help get you started. You could volunteer to take on tasks in your current job that could help give you the experience, skills and knowledge you need. Up skilling is not an over night exercise.

You can use the same approach if you want to start a business but are not sure what, however most businesses require some sort of investment and you need to establish that as well.

Now that you know where you are going in part 3 we will define your target audience/market/job.
